I was wondering, what is considered an acceptable webpage file size these days? That is, code and image sizes combined? Right now I have a webpage that is initially 177kb in size with code and images included.
Then after the website is initialized I have a slideshow that brings in new images and each image in that slideshow is between 50k and 100k.
I’m trying to figure out if this is an acceptable load for mid to high end viewers (I’m not really worried about the 56K people running IE6)
Finally, does anyone know of any good file size optimization techniques? I have run all of my images through Photoshop’s “save for web” utility. I optimized each image for file size and took the quality as low as I wanted to visually, but I feel that a number of the images are still excessively large.
