Whatever happened to personalized home pages?

I was reading about the Google News redesign here: https://www.blog.google/topics/journalism-news/redesigning-google-news-everyone/

One of the things they highlight is that the design makes it easy to customize the content to your liking. The thing is, we had all of that almost 10-ish years ago with custom home pages by Google, Microsoft (start.com / live.com), and a really popular startup (net something?) whose name I don’t remember.

Whatever happened to personalized home pages?

The first-screen on Instagram, Twitter, Reddit, Facebook, Tumblr, Flickr, Snapchat, Pinterest, Twitch, GitHub, etc. effectively replaces that. Who you friend is who you are, or something like that. And you can choose which of those show up on the home screen of your phone, or choose which notifications are allowed to show up when you raise or unlock your phone, too.

That’s a good point! Never thought of those sites as home pages before! :stuck_out_tongue:
