When do you decide to use loadmovie?

Let’s say I am building a site where I will use LoadMovie or MovieClipLoader to load external swf’s. BUT how do you guys decide if you should do that or if you should just load MC’s ? should I build my site and then see how big the swf is ? then decide if I should edit some of the swf and create external swf’s ?
