Why duplicate mc does and attachdoesnot!

Some thoughts on why a duplicated movie clip can have a on press startdrag cmd applied to it successfully and an attached, createempty or loaded clip doesnt seem to be able to?

From an Aussie in Taipei to an Aussie in London (virtual VB to ya, mate):

You can only use attachMovie() to load symbols from your library (and you have to provide a linkage id for those symbols in order to access them).

As mentioned above, if you want to load in external images and muck around with them, you gotta:

  1. create your outer clip which will have your event handlers:
    somewhere.createEmptyMovieClip(“outsideClip”, 1); --1 is depth
  2. create your inner clip into which you will load your image:
    somewhere.outsideClip.createEmptyMovieClip(“innerClip”, 1);
  3. using “innerClip”, load an external image, like so:
    somewhere.outsideClip.innerClip.loadMovie(“gothelions.jpg”,1);
  4. chuck your event handlers on outsideClip:
    somewhere.outsideClip.onRollOver = function () {
    // do something
    }
