3ds4 - scaling

alright this quesiton is really simple…but i can’t figure it! this program is soo complicated! so the question is, how do i scale instead of using the icon that has two squares inside of each other (next to the rotate).

i want to be able to type the figures in instead since it is sooo much easier and it is really annoying to scale using that icon thing. by the way, when it says restrict to x or soemthing, does that mean only scale x? or only scale y and z?

thx

try rightclicking the icon

i jsut get a menu…?! i clicked scale and it jsut gives me that same icon was talking about…how do you do it with numbers…?! i’m prboably overlookin somethin simple :frowning:

As far as I know, when u mark an icon, (let’s say the move icon), and the rightclick it, a window pops up enabling u to insert numbers instead of moving my mouse.

The same thing should count for the scale and rotate icons. First leftclick (not hold), and then right-click.

Works in my 3dsmax.

ah yea youw ere right…so now that i got taht, one of my cylinders looks flat and the other looks like a very stratched (width-wise) cylinder. how do i fix this…? sorry i’m very very new to this

If you have the scaling icon active, u should see scaling-axis on the object, just set the corresponding values in the popup window

or… am I being to general in my explanations…? :-\

sorry but i think you are heh, i dont’ mean to be annoying, but i’m just very very very very very very very neeeeeeww at this.

yep so i get what you mean by the scaling axis, but not too sure about the pop up windows?!

do you mean the x, y, z stuff you click at the top!? they don’t seem to do much for some reason, again is there another way where you can type in the numbers…!? cuz i hate doing it using hte icon thing, its real annoying :hangover:

yeess…

As I told u before, first leftclick the scaling icon, THEN right-click it, a window SHOULD appear, where u can insert numbers

Or at least I think so… I’ll be home in about an hour, I can check it then… IF I am mistaken… lol :stuck_out_tongue:

alrite i got it! so problem number 2 now, it says offset screen? what does that mean? i tried messing around with it but i dont’ get it! sorry. i would’ve checked the help, but its waaaaay tooo complicated for a newb

The help is full of boring ****… the stuff you want to learn is far ahead… but the boring stuff is also something you need to know

Personally I haven’t checked the help out much, I just started making blocks and spheres and all kinds of weird shiznit

Just fiddle around with the controls, see what they do… get familiarized with the layout

I just started on Maya 4.0… ■■■■… complicated…

Plus my extrusions are still crooked!!! :!:

alright, thx i’ll mess around it for a while and if i still don’t get it i’ll post it here heh (i can always rely on this forum :)) (-: :A+: C:-) :rambo:

wonderphull isn’t it? (-:

Or you can just PM me if it get’s outta hand
