A good text editor?

any1 know a good text editor?

like notepad, although i hear its pretty terrible, it adds extra text etc

Notepad, wordpad, word, depends, they’re all kinda the same, but with stripped features for simpler small memory prog…

notepad adds extra text? huh?

SciTE or Emacs.

Scite is really good.
Thank god I just remeber Scite.
Why did i even install dreamweaver :lol:

i read somewhere that notepad adds extra text in the file if u save it because it thinks its something else when it saves. Bit vague, but its late here and im tired lol:P

That’s probably Word…

VI!

www.vim.org

By far the most powerful text-editor :slight_smile: It has a bit of a learning curve, but once you get it, you’re unstoppable.

NO!

for those not enlightened: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Editor_war

word. lol anything works for me it doesnt matter.

Why point reference to an editor war article, I made made my suggestion based on what I think, and I think that VI is the most powerful text editor. If you are going to knock the editor (either of them, VI or Emacs) then do it with something better than an article on editor wars.

I’m sure not too many if anyone here is a devote fan of either editor, bringing up something as irrelevant as that is dumb.

I say if you are in search of an editor, look into all your options, my choice is VI, and I suggest that you at least look into it. The control and flexibility is undeniable, the learning curve like I said is awkward, but it’s worth it in the end.

Take Care.

I naively never realised there was such a choice. I’ve been a notepad man for years. I think I’ll check some of these out and see what they have to offer.

I was joking, calm down :wink: I intended to make the point that I prefer Emacs to vi/vim

i hear textpad is good?

i like notepad++
http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/uk/site.htm

tons of feauture but loads just about as fast as wordpad/notepad, and supports plugins

that’s occurs when you save it as a log file. normal text files are fine. if you’re just looking for a text editor for small text, notepad should be fine.

if you have large text files (20MB+) i would look into something like ultra edit 32. you don’t want one that stores the data in memory because then it takes a long time to load. you want the data loaded as needed, which ultra edit does.

I concur, notepad++ is winnership.

sorry I was tired and grumpy, stupid thing for me to get upset about :frowning:

Ah, no worries then :slight_smile:

nano is the best!

nano/pico is the best!
