I was just wondering, when looking at the board at the threads you can see:
replies | views
I think it would be really nice if there were a:
solved | by
with this information being changed by the poster when they have the answer they are looking for.
Obviously the benifit would be one wouldn’t have to look to help someone who has already got their answer. And it gives recognition to the person whom solved the problem.
This could then be added and it could show.
posts = 100
solved = 50
score = 50%
Just a thought :sigh:
[Sorry if this is in the wrong place or mentioned b4]
Hey i liked your idea. The thread starter could have the option to tell if the doubt was solved and the solved thread could have a different icon, or sign.
That would be very usefull, specially when searching the forums. And i think less threds would remain unanswered.
O thats brilliant. There can be a point system instead of your scoring thing where everytime someone solves a problem, they get a point. And maybe we can even make a ‘store’ out of it somehow.
Agreed claudio, it’ll make topics like this much faster if we knew which hasn’t been answered.
I feel a little uneasy about the scoring part however - I don’t think helping people should be a competition.
I agree it would be useful to know that the original poster has been able to close off his/her query - and the power of Kirupa’s Search facility gets even stronger
Well this isn’t really a compitition. We aren’t here to gain recognition. We are here because we either a) need help with things, or b) enjoy helping other people with their problems.
Its a good idea, but it would be a bit tough to implement and Kirupa doesn’t really have the time to update the forummm
When you go back in and save changes to your post, even though it lets you edit the:
Post subject:
when you have saved it, it doesn’t update in the Forum.
I tried to add {solved}{Kaz} to the subject line of one of my posts.
As for the points thing, there are a number of people on here who really do help a lot.
There are some on here that are not so helpful and just give you rubbish instead of help.
** theres another idea… you could give a score to anyone who tried to help solve your post. give them a rating for their effort of -5 to +5
That way ppl who just bag ppl and dont help can have the stigma of being good for nothing with a negaive score. It would make a game out of helping ppl, as you would try to come up with the best answer to score more points…
No, rating users goes too far IMO. When someone helps you out, or even tries to, you should be thankful, not rating. And I’d suggest just Solved when a problem has been solved, not solved by ->

I think it’s a great idea! No need for points though. What I think the easiest way to implement it is just to edit the subject when the problem has been solved.
Example:
Subject: “How do you drag a movie clip along a path?”
Then when someone solves it, the original poster would edit the subject like so-
Subject: “How do you drag a movie clip along a path? !!SOLVED!!”
This way there would be no need to actually implement such a feature to the boards. And when someone is doing a search, they will easily see that it has been solved when they see !!SOLVED!!
I think a sticky thread titled “When a post is solved…” would work to get people familiar with the idea and describe what to do when a thread is solved.
Great idea! Let’s get it goin!
edit: well, i just tested my theory and editing the subject doesn’t really work like I wanted. The actual subject doesn’t change when you try to edit it maybe kirupa can enable subject edits???
In vBulletin you can set the time users have to change the title of a thread and to edit a post before it syas “last edited by …” at the bottom. These values are standard set to 5(minutes) for changing thread title and 2 mins for editing post.
But since it can take long before something is solved, I don’t think this is the best way to do it.
Maybe kirupa can implement a dropdownbox at the bottom of the page which has two options: Not Solved and Solved. When Solved is selected, an icon next to the thread is in enabled state (like the new posts and the no new posts images) or something like that.
