An interesting article I came across yesterday

http://carsonified.com/blog/uncategorized/5-good-reasons-why-designers-should-code/

Basically, this lists 5 reasons why designers should code themselves. The reason I found it interesting was because I didn’t know that there are people out there who call themselves web designers, but yet don’t know any HTML or CSS. What also surprised me was the number of comments of people saying “yeah good point, I’ll learn how to code” - even one guy said only one person in his agency actually knows any form of coding!

I may be missing the point a bit as I know I’m not a Photoshop-meister, but in my opinion, you’re not a web designer unless you can actually produce web pages. Anyone who can only do it in Photoshop is more of a “designer for the web” I think.

Is this kind of a standard in the industry these days? People put together mock ups in Photoshop and call themselves web designers? I know that my Photoshop talents aren’t the best around, but I feel even more proud of the fact that I can put together web pages with HTML and CSS now!
