The truth is, I’m not a designer, nor an artist at all. For a couple years I made some websites I liked, but for the past year or so, I haven’t been able to develop anything I like, and in the last few months, I can’t get past 20 minutes of work in Photoshop without getting frustrated.
I’m a coder, and I need a website to put out my code experiments and serve as a hub for information about me and stuff…but I can’t make the site! If I had a design, I could code it completely, but I can’t make a design. When I look at sites for inspiration, I end up just copying them. Help!
What kind of advice can you give for a programmer who wants to make a site, but can’t for the life of him make one that looks good? I don’t want to fall back on templates or other people, but I may have to. Does a good looking design matter to you, or can you look through a simplistic design to see the content? I could make a site that simple and to the point, wouldn’t be confusing and such, but I probably can’t make it look very pretty.
