When I import bitmaps into Flash MX (gifs), they lose their sharpness and look more blurred than they do in Photoshop. Is there a way of retaining the sharpness?

go to your bitmap in the library and rightclick on it choosing Properties. In there you have the option to turn off smoothing, something which causes images to blur, but does so to prevent the effects of pixelation.

theres a bug in Flash (present in 5 as well as MX) where if you have a gif in the first frame of your movie, it will always be smoothed no matter what its property settings are, smoothed or not. So be aware of that.
