This is quite difficoult to explain, but by the way I will try. I have an assignment for my university, on which I have to define sounds for 4 different periods of human life:
birth
adolescence
being adult
oldness and death.
I know this sound quite strange, but I really need help!
I can give you an example. A sound associated with birth can be crying.
But I really dont know what sound an adult can make!
Well with birth there is, as you said, crying. I’d associate adolescence to mutating voices and maybe screaming? I’d associate being adult with preoccupied banter which is spoken in a very meaningful and pompous way but is really not meaningful. I’d associate oldness and death with sighs and gasping sounds.
For the adult actually… if you want to be creative, or if you can be, you can do the Charlie Brown wha whawa thingy… it was only the adults that sounded like that.
babies = cry/ babble (as upuaut mentioned)
adolescent = whining (as in complaining all the time)
adult = silence (err meaning an adult who is an adult in the true meaning of the word will have a silence which speaks for itself)…haha ok that sucks…LOL…sorry dude couldnt come up with anything else.
oldness & death = sighing and groaning
Thank you very much for your quick reply! I have started to do the birth section and I will put a link to the mp3 for those of you who are curious about this work and would like to help me with critiques!
I will use your ideas, but honestly I already tought about them and I was looking forward to some other original suggestions.
In the mean time, thanks again very much, and if any other idea lighten up your mind please write it here!
Baby -> Slap and cry
Adolescent -> I know the sound only I don’t know how to write it…
It’s the other thing adolescents do when “Duh!” isn’t used. Sorta “Arrrrhhh!”, a long yawn where your eyes usually go up and you shake your head. Kinda "I can’t believe this!"
Adult -> Background noise of a party or a room filled with people. Maybe work related background noise with people talking if possible.
Old age -> I don’t know if the old people all around the world make this noise, but it’s their sneeze. One loud “AAAEHH!!”. If you heard it you know what I’m talking about. If not just nevermind. Sorta shouting and sneezing at the same time. Hard to describe, but I don’t know how to describe it better.
Sicily…
Baby -> Cry
Adolescent -> Some people having intercouse with goat sounds in the background (or some other animal common to the land…)
Adult -> Women having a baby
Old Age -> Some old guy screaming “Heathens!” Or some other thing a grampa would scream at you if he caught you having sex with his grandaughter.
Actually I read the post and those were the 1st things I thought of.
Baby - the sound of a Rattle (this toy thingy)
Adolescent - popping of a bottle cap and huge gulping of beer
Adult - roaring motor of a sports car (cause I can afford the porsche!)
Old - sounds of folk music (Old people hang out at dance halls where they have coffee/tea and cookies!).
Another Old - sounds of waves, the beach, sea eagles and laughter, 'cause if you had the right retirement plan you live at the coast or you are on a cruise.
… the bad bladder was great
for baby how about that pop noise people can do by putting their finger in their mouth and flicking it out the side…you know like “pop, goes the weasel”
teenage would be having sex in bushes
adult would be the sound of coins being counted
old would be creaking…any creaking, my knees, my arms, my coffin…
@upuaut >>Sorry upuaut, I did not catch the fact that you wanted to give a start and a similar end. That’s a nice idea and I think I will use it for sure!
@unclesond >> the course is called sound and music recording and is an english university, and you are right I di not say (mea culpa) that it must be something abstract.
@everyone, thanks a lot for your help, I have put down a quick try of the first bit, the birth. You can find it at this address: link. <<!! about 3 mega !
