im gonna start making some pixel people and smilies. i have flash mx and adobe photoshop 7. so if you have any pointers on how to create one i would be very happy and grateful.

use photoshop, not Flash. For both smilies and pixel people, look to current incarnations and find a common (or really, the most common) style and make a template off of that to base all smilies/ppl off of. Smilies, for example, you’d want to base off of 
Just mark out the eyes and smile with the orange color of the middle of the face to give you a clean slate to work from.
