Apple and emotions

I see this a lot here, so I’m just gathering information.

A couple of things: a lot of you seem to define yourselves by the platforms you use and the products you buy, which is weird to me, but I understand it. Putting yourself in a camp surrounded by likeminded people is probably reassuring. The obvious camps are the Apple and Everything Else camps.

It seems like most people here are in the Every Else camp. I’m not sure if this is because Flash and Apple are not really friends or what it is. A lot of the negativity seems to revolve around non-competitive pricing, which I personally feel is kind of ridiculous. Sure, buying a hard drive or RAM through Apple is going to be absurdly marked up, but buying a device is usually cost competitive, especially in the iPad and iPhone.

However, certain people recognize the value in paying more for industrial design and software, while others put their value in their ability to tinker.

Anyway, long meandering paragraphs later, my point is: who cares what you choose? Really, it’s a personal choice and it doesn’t hurt anybody. The rabid anti-whatever, from both camps, is odd.

So, help me understand. I think it’s a social thing, not an empirical thing.
