I have since purchased a Macbook Pro 17 ", more info for those with the same concerns can be seen in the following thread, where I have made further comments about the purchase: http://www.kirupa.com/forum/showthread.php?366253-2011-Macbook-Pro-Advice.-Reliability-and-15in-or-17in&p=2617320&posted=1#post2617320 <-- Read more here

I was curious if any members here had purchased a 2011 MacBook Pro? If so I was wondering if you are experiencing any of the freezing issues being widely discussed?

I am in the market for a new Apple laptop and was just beginning research when I was alarmed by the overwhelming issues people seemed to be having. Apple released the 10.6.7 update with some reports claiming this fixed certain peoples freezing issues although I am reading in other places where this update did not provide any solution for others with the issues. I am just a little concerned as some reports say its a GPU driver issue, other reports suggest it stems from over use of thermal glue, etc. Of course a driver update would be optimal, but if thermal glue is part of the issue then that would not be easily resolved unless Apple recalls all effected units and physically corrects the issue or provides replacement, otherwise all present units in inventory and on shelf could potentially have problems.

The issue with over use of thermal glue seems to date back a ways:

Anyone have a Apple laptop that seems to run hot, loud fans, etc… which could stem from too much thermal glue?

Really a bummer that these issues seem to be so wide spread. I was getting ready to upgrade when I had second thoughts given all the reported issues Apple MacBook Pros are having with the 2011 release. I am also always a little hesitant to get first generation technology and these laptops have a few things that are new to the product line.

Lastly I was curious what peoples thoughts were on 15" vs 17", presently I have a 15" and was curious how others feel about the 17" and if its worth the difference.

So what say you Kirupians? :kommie:
