I know the back button issue gets asked about a lot (I’ve read dozens and dozens of threads, but I cannot work this out)…
I’ve tried to use the workaround model shown at RoberPenner.com (as recommended here, and on the marcomedia pet store example), and I can ALMOST get it working.
I’ve got it to the point where the drop-down list of recent pages you can get from the Back button list the navigation point of the movie, in the order they were visited, but when you click on the back button, nothing happens…
:-\ can anyone help me finally beat this bug into submission?
I think you just have to use the labels / anchors in Flash MX. I saw a website that explained it really well… Something like Flash 99% Good I think. It was a Flash first aid style site… Sorry I can’t remember the URL, should have bookmarked it. :-\
Anyway, I’m sure that if give all your movie sections labels, then there’s an option in the Properties panel underneath where you type the label called Named Anchor. Select that, and the Back button should work.
that’s what I thought too, I tried that before I got onto this model.
The problem with the anchor label method (I’ve seen this detailed on other forums, so its not just me), is that they one work on a few browser releases, otherwise they thake you back and forth through the movie as its linear timeframe indicates, not in the reverse of the way the user navigates… apparently MM have acknowledged this but have not posted a patch yet
any idea why the system I’m working on would create a browser history but not move back/forth in accordance with it?
No, I couldn’t say for certain I’m afraid. I think it’ll probably come down to working on some browsers / releases but not others. It’s a step in the right direction - at least we have Back button functionality now - but it’s still not infallible.
I’ve spent 5 solid days fighting this problem, and learnt a lot doing so, but at the end of it, I cannot get this to work in a way that improves the usability of the site for the end user. If the navigation is irritating for a naive user, then its a turn-off, not an enhancement to use it.
I’m an amateur at this, and its time I admitted I’m just kidding myself. I’m giving up on this idea as a bad joke. I’ll ditch the full flash site, and just keep the intro. The rest can be html
