quick and simple lil’ site to promote my band and our music.
Thought I’d share with you all and get some opinions along the
way. Both the music AND the site, if you wish! The page isn’t
live just yet…
Over all it’s pretty clean and smooth, the only thing that I think would make it look more interesting is maybe a bit more color. You have some hints of blue here and there, but they’re not the same blue so it seems a bit wierd to me, but that’s just me, I’m picky. =)
By the way, your band’s music is awesome. I like track 3, it has a bit of funk in it. =)
redViper - thanks, I appreciate it. It is dark, but that was on
purpose…gald you noticed! I tend to agree now that’s it’s
finished though, so I’ll play with it and see what else I can
colorize a bit more.
electrongeek - your stuff is great, i know your quality of work is
top notch, so I understand your comment about colors being
different. You’re right, I’ll change it to match better.
Thanks for listening to the music! Track 3 was always a crowd
favorite, and it was requested by many to be part of the design
when finished, so I obliged. The band is no more, I just needed
to add another design to the ol’ portfolio, and after only a day’s
work I don’t think it’s so bad.
I agree with what EG said. The colors need some contrast.
And… nice nav I like it
It is probably my monitor color (has a habit of being really dark on all the brightest settings), but your form elements don’t seem clearly defined to me, I had to squint to see them… but that may just be my retarded monitor.
The transitions are short and to the point, and nice use of space considering there isn’t much content to be showed at all.
thought you might like that nav I abviously gotta work on some
color…ok, ok, i get the hint! As far as the forms, the fiedl bg color
is #333333 on #000000 so i thought that was enough of a
contrast. At least it is for me…but this is why we site check right?
HEY!!! I want a tutorial on the cool Nav. please… I have seen sites with it, but I can’t seem to find out what ActionScript codes would make that work? Please show me a tutorial or a site or something. THANKS!!!
Mike - It’s really just a variation on the easing tute lostinbeta
wrote for kirupa.com I started by removing the y=, but i couldn’t
figure out how to get the mouse to stop moving when i wasn’t
over the nav itslef. here’s the original tut: http://www.kirupa.com/developer/mx/followease.htm
whattaya think beta? should I give out your deepest, darkest
secret to this? A full tutorial could be done pretty quickly…
350z - Thanks for the compliment on the music. =) We tried to
be original and catchy at the same time, but we were always
labeled with Red Hot Chili Peppers and 311, much to our shegrin.
cd? We don’t have any printed at the moment - sold out - sorry.
But, most everything is actually in .mp3 at this point. I
can give you the links to them if you want. Just PM me.
Unflux: do what you want… anything I teach or have a tutorial on is naturally open source… take it, mangle it, experiment with it, tear it to pieces, give it out, write a tutorial on it… whatever
very nicely laid out. I too liked track 3. I did think the music was a bit loud, compared to most sites. When it came on, it blasted on my speakers (really anoying if you’re in an office).
But, that is being real picky. the site has a nice professional look about it (I won’t mention the colors)… The only other thing is that the text is kinda hard for me to read (but then the over 40 crowd prob isn’t your demographic anyway), even on my 19" kickasp monitor…
thanks, dear reverend! I appreciate the compliments on the
music. We are very proud of our work.
As far as the music, I see your point about the overall volume. I
plan to add a volume slider to it in the future, so that will help.
But, I have a question for you: going to a band site, and didn’t
expect music? (-: hehe I’m actually going to adjust the volumes
down a bit. Thanks for pointing that out, because to me, it
seems ok. I need this kind of feedback, which is why i posted it!
Everyone else away from here always says: Looks great! which
doesn’t help me…
The text size isn’t changeable, sorry. Some things I can’t do
much about, or it would ruin the design. I’m sure you understand.
And, yes, you are correct in saying that 40+ is NOT our
demographic.
The photo was done on the Light Rail tracks of Baltimore. The
studio is actually in the foreground, behind the camera. A friend
of the band, who is a photographer, took the shot.
Thanks for noticing my galant return! I’ve been so busy, and
gladly so, with designing and planning the business. I’ll definitely
get to the board more often from now on. Glad to be back!
Mike - yes, of course! All those songs are 100% original,
and 100% ours. We spent 6 yrs together, writing tons of songs,
picked the 12 songs we thought best represented our sound,
and went into a studio and recorded them. What you hear is the
finished product, of course.
I’m doing an online music gallery with several different artists presently. What is the best way to go about setting this up? Any info would be greatly appreciated…
I would say similar to what I did with the music. Each song is a
different movie, and is loaded via the buttons. The music itself is
actually imported into the movie and then streamed.
I didn’t do it quite like this, but here’s a tutorial you can use to get
a better idea of what to do:
about the volume, yeah I expected music, it’s just that I had just been to a couple of sites with sound, then went to yours. Since I use my home stereo for my computer sound, it seemed like it was loud. again, that is being really picky, most will not even notice it.
about the font - it is the wave… I don’t personally like it, but it is “the style” … I didn’t like bellbottoms either, but they went out of style eventually… :beam:
if I wore my glasses more, I could see better as well
thx for the feedback rev. I need to know these sort of things…
I’ll go through and adjust the music volumes and make sure they
are at a more acceptable level. I agree, it really doesn’t have to
be all loud and in-your-face as much as it is.
I also was told that song #2 was lower in overall volume than the
others. I guess I have to make sure the mp’s are created a bit
more equally as well.
