hi all,
i’m putting the finishing touches to my new site, its taken longer than expected, but these things always do eh? http://www.blackboxpassenger.com/v3
theres a few things that still need doing i know (putting photos in teh photo section, half my portfolio isnt there, if you click too fast between sections then some movies dont get unloaded etc), but if anyones got any comments i’ld be intrigued!

ps
can someone check it out with the flash 5 player? i dont seem to be able to install it on my machine. hopefully you’ll get a ‘u need flash 6 plugin’, i’ve used code which is xhtml friendly.
Very, very good use of colors and animation. I’m not the biggest fan of the tan color, but it still looks great. Excelent transitions between the pages. One thing you might want to do is hint at the enter button because I, being kinda stupid, couldn’t find it right away. Took like 10 secs.
cheers crazygamer, sure, the enter button isnt very obvious, i was hoping the the ‘gentle throbbing’ would attract the eye and so the hand. i’m glad you didnt notice anything too erroneous!
anyone else? anyone got the flash5 plugin, slow connection,or just feel like doing a critique?
Loved yur site… The whole layout concept is looks very cool and all… However from the user’s point of view, I think there r a couple things you can improve on…
First thing is, when I went into the site, I pressed space bar for the navigation, and well nothing happpend, it took me a while to figure out that I had to hold on the space bar key to bring/keep the navigation in view… I know this might be the “style” of the site, but think about it from a user’s point of view…It would be alot better, in my opinion, to have the navigation more straight-forward (i.e. no pushing spacebar to bring it up…) Or if u really want that space bar in there, then even after the navigation goes into the side, make a vertical bar or something that says drag to bring about menu, or keep pushing space to bring about menu…
Secondly, in the navigation itself, separating the contact section would be a good idea, so if someone is serious about contacting u, he/she doesn’t spend the next few minutes trying to figure out
… but overall, yea I really did love the site… oh…yea um…what fonts did u use for the site (thing is I am stuck as to what fonts to use in mine, and I really like those )
hi tip,
wow, great feedback! i never thought that a user would press the spacebar for an instant instead of keeping their finger down. i guess i had to use the nav while building the site, so was use to it! the fonts i used were impact and helvetica- nothing particularly unusual, but i really dig those fonts. its 5pm now, time to go home! but will check your site out tomorrow.
The design is nice and trendy, but here are the bad things I noticed:
First off, the image on your splash page has jagged edges and doesn’t look too clean. I can tell that it wasn’t originally created by a vector program or else you woudn’t have that problem. I would re-create that same image in a program like Illustrator or Freehand or even flash to get that clean vector look.
Another thing I didn’t like is the font used on your menu text. It looks like Arial Black or another heavy weight font which makes it a bit hard to read. I would use a lighter weight font like Arial to make it easier to read and it would also make it look cleaner as well.
Overall I thought the site is nicely laid out and the effects are pretty smooth. The colorful moving bars is a nice touch. =)
hi all,
massive thanks for feedback. SOTW? you’re too kind!
electrongeek: i created that image in flash originally, but lost the fla file that it was in, so had to do a screen shot of the image, thats why its got jagged edges! i’ll probably recreate in flash again. text on buttons: yes, i agree.
i’m glad noone said anything about the colour scheme. i havent seen anyone use these muted colours before (although i’m sure they have!)
thanx all, what a cool forum!

tipusultan: looked at your site. logical layout, organic colours, nice title images, and easy to find the relevant information. nice job!
