Given the functionality of your product I am not surprised that you found this post. I do however find it interesting that you took the time to post.
I have been looking at other people’s comments as they posted but never bothered to reply.
Yes the flip book is not new, I myself played around with it about 4years ago.
However I have become tired of Flash being used for the sake of it.
I have become tired of gimmick menus and effects and while they maybe some brilliant piece of coding, they do not serve their primary function well, the easy navigation of the site.
Nxtbook job was to show me a magazine. No it could not have been done in pdf with the same functionality. (page and link tracking)
For me it was the closest thing I have ever had to a real digital magazine.
For me the page turn effect was an after thought, a nice little extra touch. Even if it had not been there I would have still posted here.
For some reason everyone looked straight at the design, the page turn.
I however was looking at the over all design and functionality of it. It served it purpose perfectly.
It’s as close as you can get to having the actual magazine right in front of you. And it has the added benefit to the client of tracking.
I.e,You publish an article that no one wants to read, you will soon find that out from the page tracking stats. Next issue you know not to waste more space on that topic.
I personally wouldn’t hesitate to subscribe to a magazine based solely on Nxt. It would give me piece of mind not having to hope it turns up in the mail, and that I can access my magazines even when not at home.
So I still think it is a Kool site.
I would have to say thankyou to Nxt for having DTI as their sample. I had not come across DTI before but it is now bookmarked giving me access to previous and current issues.
It just so happens that DTI is the exact type of magazine I am interested in, so I spent time going through it all and being amazed at how well Dxt worked.
Perhaps you should post some batman comics, so that rather than just looking at the page flip, some others might take the time to enjoy how well Dxt does its job. =)
