Button graphic changes

http://www.drive-right.com/Menu.swf

Could someone help me out here? In the link above the menu buttons change, but the graphic they chage to doesn’t exsist…it should stay the same…

I have an movie clip to load the buttons, then replace them all in the same frame with the buttons. The graphic of the last frame of each animation and the button graphics are exactly the same, but it changes.

Any ideas?

Hi,
No idea !
Why don’t you post your fla so that people can see what is going on, might make it easier to help you

SteveD

Thanks, hope someone can find something out…

Hi

i looked at your file and i really dont understand what’s the effect your trying to achieve ???

Make the buttons go slightly up, and then each one when hovered should have that black ring ?

Hi,
I think that is the image that Plathborn says isn’t there and wants to get rid of - right ? Well the bad news is that, the image is there, it is pretty deep, you just have to keep clicking down. You need to rebuild the file from scratch, but much much fewer graphic symbols, try this :
In a new movie draw the original shape of your buttons, make the line quite thick ( about 2 or 3); Colour it the way you want, with button your blue and I think the line is a dark blue ? click on the image so that all of it including lines are highligted and hit F8, make sure movie clip is checked, give it a symbol name of originalGraphic. Open the movie clip add a layer underneath your graphic, then copy the grapic and paste it into the bottom layer ( lock and hide the one above), then just remove the line, change the tint to black, and there is your shadow, then manipulate how you want, with the shadow appearing over a short tween, there is no need to use masks or anything else in this process and put a stop action in the very last frame of the tween, when you have done that, save it, then in the library, duplicate it as many time as you have buttons, then you can import your text into each one, ** that is all you need,** if you look in the tutes section, you probably find something on how to turn an mc into a button, so you don’t even need to make identical buttons(it involves basic MX code and not turning them into button in the property panel), so, if I were you I would open a completely new movie, import your text graphics only and start again.
If yu need any help post here
Good Luck

turely bizzare…

Having looked at the fla file there doesnt seem to be anything wrong!!

I’ll try a couple of thing and get bacl

SteveD, I tried that and it works if I draw it in Flash. I figured out something of the problem with the original…in the FreeHand Objects folder there are two pics that, combined, make that weird graphic that appeared.

That folder was created when I imported the button graphic from Freehand, but it only affects it when I use it as a button.

I tried it with just a button in the entire file, and it still does that inverted graphic. Any ideas about that? FreeHand SHOULD import into flash with no problem…and why does it only mess up when it’s used as a button?

Hi,
I honestly don’t know why it is happening or how to stop it. It’s just weird ! Thats why I suggested a complete rebuild, only using the minimum number of imges from your original file ( i.e. the text)
If you delete the offending file, you have no buttons, so a rebuild creating your images in Flash would be safer.
