Buying Flash mx book- help Please?

I am planning to buy myself a flash mx book to use as a reference. Can anyone suggest a good book for me…so I don’t buy one that is garbage ahaha

*I don’t know much about actionscript, only basics
*I want to learn about adding music, text , video etc. from external sources
*or anything else that you guys may think is necessary to learn

thanks for your help

i recently taught myself flash as well, tho i did have a macromedia director background, but here are some great books:
Katherine Ulrich - Flash MX, visual quick start guide (try amazon used)
Phillip Kerman - Sams teach yourself flash in 24 hours
PS Woods- Flash MX developers guide

but the best resource i found is the tutorials on this site. If i were to buy one book it would be the Katherine Ulrich book, then just use this site for everything else. Seriously, the tutorials on this site are excellent.

Probably “Flash MX Bible” (good book for foundation).
“Flash MX ActionScript Bible” great actionscript book.

Thank’s just my opinion :sigh:

  • the developers guide is best for action script and advanced stuff…

mine are cheaper… hahaha!

Here’s mine:

  1. Macromedia Flash MX Advanced - Visual Quickpro Guide - by Russell Chun.
Although it’s entitled Advanced, if you want to go straight to the Actionscripts and direct to “test drive” then I recommend you this book.
  2. Phillip Kerman - Actionscripting in Flash. He will teach you gently from basic to advance of terminology and jargon of any Actionscripting, and in each section you will get a “workshop”.

I take it that you are a beginner in Actionscripting, so that’s my recommendation. If you want more, read Senocular tutorial in this site. I printed them out and read it.

Cheers

great thanks guys…I look into those books

I do go through many tutorials on the site…they are great and easy to learn

Circles, next time search please.

  1. Colin Moock - Actionscript - The Definitive Guide Edition 2
  2. Macromedia - Advanced Actionscripting from the Source
  3. Joshua Davis - Flash to the Core
