Can someone dissect this?

check out the transition between scene changes. How is that achieved? Is this using some kind of mask between images? Love some input as I would like to achieve a similar effect between image transitions.

First of all NEVER USE SCENES! Just use different movieclips, frames and labels!
but that effect is quite simple but I wouldn’t recommend it on backgrounds- it’s laggy

That tutorial is what this site does to transition its sections, but this site also uses masks for the added effect of uneveness. To get that all you have to do is elaborate more on Kirupas tutorial.
