Check Hotmail with Thunderbird!

I ran a quick search and didn’t find anything, so I hope this isn’t a repeat.

I just found this great extension for Thunderbird (1.4-1.6) that allows you to check and send mail from Yahoo, Hotmail, Lycos, Gmail, Aol, Maildotcom, and Libera.

This was always one of the big things that Outlook(Express) had on thunderbird…not any more!

*Note for Linux users: You may have to change the port numbers on POP/SMTP to something above 1024. I used 1025 and 1026 and it seems to work fine (ports below 1024 are blocked by default).

**Note for any user: Problem, “I gave it a run, and it downloaded all my emails from my inbox, and now all the emails in my inbox online are gone!” Solution, somewhere during the installation it will ask you if you want to download messages now. Uncheck the box so it won’t download them and then go to “Account Settings” (under tools or edit) and then click on “Server Settings” underneath your hotmail account. Then check the box “Leave messages on server”.

They’re only blocked for non-root users

Cool stuff. I’ve always thought of using outlook to keep all my emails in one place, but I really like how gmail groups the convo’s, thus I’ll stick to the browser.

Interesting alternative to reading hotmail emails without being forced to use IE…

one problem, however. I gave it a run, and it downloaded all my emails from my inbox, and now all the emails in my inbox online are gone! Anyone know how to prevent/fix this? :frowning:

Sorry…I’ll add that in to the first post
