** Not to be confused with Mexican Independence Day (which is September 16, of course), Cinco de Mayo commemorates Mexico’s victory over the French occupational forces of Napoleon III at the [URL=“http://ct.download.com/clicks?t=38449868-ff0207d24b4ad84eb665b19daaabd6ba-bf&s=5&fs=0”]Battle of Puebla. Everybody knows that, right?
Largely overlooked in Mexico proper, the holiday has become a major party north of the border. It’s like Saint Patrick’s Day for the Irish, but with much better food in my opinion (carnitas over corned beef).
