Explanation: The Republican’s wacky performance in this 1992 wedding video excerpt–shot years after Bush went cold turkey in July 1986–needs to be preserved for future generations. The video was shot at the August 29, 1992 wedding of Jamie Weiss, the daughter of Dubya’s close friends Mike and Nancy Weiss. Mike, a Lubbock, Texas lawyer and CPA, was Bush’s campaign chairman during his first political race (an unsuccessful 1978 congressional bid) and was one of the Texas governor’s earliest political appointments. Nancy, also a Bush appointee, had a prime speaking slot on the final night of the Republican convention. She told the crowd, “I wish you could see how he reaches out to people, teasing those who can take it and protecting those who can’t.” Indeed, what a teaser! When cameraman T. Patrick Murray filmed Bush during the wedding reception at a Lubbock country club, the future governor took some rambling–and we presume good-natured–swipes at the newlyweds, the bride’s parents, and her brother Kelly (Bush was being quizzed by a member of the bridal party). We love the part where teetotaler George actually disses two of the Weisses for supposedly not drinking or smoking. And as for those weird Don King-like “only in America” cracks–not to mention what’s in that glass–your guess is as good as TSG’s.

I love it! There is a lot of informative posts, as well as a lot of stuff that i think i’d be better off not knowing about… The only downside is that i hafta keep up with all of them, or my hotmail box fills up, and i start missing e-mails… other than that, i find the newsgroup to be completely informative, and quite entertaining! Thanks Philbo!

Ai - that clearly wasn’t his best moment. What was it he was drinking toward the end…looked like an unmarked bottle of some sort…:bandit:

to me it looked like a glass, with some sort of liquid in it, apparently non-alcoholic though, as our CIC has been sober since 1986. yeah.

Only in America!! haha

…yeah, I get a nice check every week personally signed by the adminstration! :ub: Actually, there are quite a few things which I do not like about the administration (I’ll let all of you guess what they would be), but this is something not related to his job (well before his current job)…possibly drinking at a party, so I have no real issues with this.

Cheers!
Kirupa :bad:

I think there is nothing wrong with drinking, even for a president. I do however think it is wrong to tell people that you are clean and sober for many years, when it is obviously not true…

Of course, im sure this is the one and only lie that he’s ever told, and everything else he says is completely truthful…

like no one here ever did anything wrong a few years back?
sheesh people look at this…
digging up a man’s past to place in front of his face…
how many shameful things do we all have in our past?
“Let he who is without sin, cast the first stone.”

I don’t mind people drinking, being an illiteracy. But I think as a President it is just not the way it should be

I think many Presidents drink or used to drink…a lot. Not too long ago, barrels of whiskey at Presidential inaugurations were common. I think what Majeye is showing is that while Pres. Bush stated he hasn’t been drinking since the late 1986, there is a chance in 1992 (when this video was taken) that he may have had a few glasses too many.

In the end, that’s his personal time (a friend’s wedding) and I don’t really care what he legally does during then. He is after all human, and he wasn’t even a public servant at that time - just the owner of {sigh} a baseball team…the Texas Rangers {sigh x2} =)

Cheers!

yeah, im not saying we are all perfect saints. A lot of presidents drink… More recently, many are alleged to have cocaine habits, but that’s beside the point. My only point is that he is being dishonest with the american people.

as are so many politicians all across the globe. it has always been like that.

yeah, i guess i am beating a dead dog. …but im enjoying it, so leave me be! :trout:
