Click to activate and use this control

Its weird and it really bothers me: did anyone of you guys noticed that Internet Explore shows border around flash movie and it won’t function properly unless you click on that flash area to activate. Usually its says

click to activate and use this control

so I am thinking is it because of the latest Windows XP updates or its just my PC?

Anyone has anything to say or some sorta solution for it?

never mind guys I found some stuff on Kirupa . sorry for posting it again

I noticed that but i though that the person did it on the flash, Now i know. Thanks

me and my dad turned off automatic updates from windows, so we’re fine…

But what does this mean for users that don’t/can’t turn it off? Does this mean flash usability will decrease?

i don’t know… i never got enough or correct info…

The “click to activate” appears only when the <embed> method is used for inserting ActiveX controls. Designers using Flash need to use the alternate methods Adobe and MS suggest for placing Flash content on the page. The <embed> method will no longer work like before

yeah, kirupa told me that before. but i was still like "huh?"
so he was the only one to give me info…

Thanks for clarifying that kirupa! :cowboy:

Use Firefox! But I should say, the update is only for the good. So you may be taking a risk, of hackers taking over your computer! But the odds of getting hacked using IE with the update, is still higher than Firefox

I’m not worried about my browser. I’m worried about the 85%+ of internet users who use IE

:stuck_out_tongue:

I’m working on a mini-tutorial that generates the code needed to use the FlashObject method. All you need to input is the movie path, the width, and the height. I’ll try to have that up by tomorrow

EDIT: Rough draft can be found here: http://www.kirupa.com/developer/flash8/flash_fix.htm

argh. i thought this stupid thing was still like 5 months away from being a problem… didn’t Mictosoft send out a letter saying they would delay it like 6 months?

They did - almost 6 months ago :stuck_out_tongue:

wow people who aslo have the same problem with me… I do not know why this just happend im still using IE4 (hehe)
