i am very very new to php and mysql and have been looking around and am curious just what a cms or content management system is and does for you if anyone would please tell me or point me to some info detailing this for me i would really appreciate it
CMS is a catch all phrase for a database driven information based web site. One example that I can think of off the top of my head is www.auctionbytes.com. They publish an online auction newsletter every two weeks. The index for the current issue is displayed on the main page of the site, along with other related resources. Back issues are archived. Those archives are broken down into the various articles, so they are therefore searchable. Any application where new content, that is primarily text based, is continually being added is a prime candidate for some type of CMS.
