Computer Game Sizes

I don’t buy many computer games. The last one I bought (before recently) was probably diablo 2 or something. But today I bought Unreal Tournament 2004. Good stuff - I’ve had the demo for a while and thought it was time to get the full game. Low and behold it requires 5.5 GIGS of free space. Exsqueeze me? That seems a little hefty IMHO.

With sizes like these, it would mean that you could really only be able to install a few games on your computer if without a huge hard drive. Is this common for games now a days? Do any of you have a separate hard drive just to house your games? Or maybe only have installed the games you’re currently playing?

Sheesh. Too bad they don’t offer a DVD version that plays off the disc (mimicing consoles. Despite the advantages of having hard drive space available for a game, I think thats a direction some PC games should take, especially if a disk is needed to play them anyway. I don’t mind a few extra seconds of loading time (I think even some games give you the option to use the hard drive more). I think, also, games will be seen more on DVD since 6 disks for UT2004 seems a bit excessive. :link:
