Configuring internet/networks after reformatting?

Hello.

When one reinstalls Windows XP on their computer, will they need to reconfigure the internet connection and network connections?

On my own computer, I’ve done it a few times and everything has been sweet. However, my folks computer is really slow and filled with junk (It’s particularly old, and they don’t want to purchase a new 'un). I think the easiest way would be to reinstall Windows etc. on it, and be done with it. Unfortunately, with my limited knowledge of Networking, I don’t really want to have to try and connect the blasted thing up to the internet again, and connect it to my computer.

At the moment, our network is set up like so:

[Eight port switch]

  • [Router/Modem/Thing with lights]
  • [Parents computer]
  • [My computer]
  • [Empty ports]

Previously, we were on dial-up, and my Parent’s computer was the Master or Host or whatever, and mine was the Slave. We upgraded to broadband a while back, and changed to the setup above (where everything comes from the Switch).

So, again, will I need to reconfigure all the settings for the internet and network upon re installation of Windows?
