Convenience is fine until it dulls the edges

I keep noticing that the annoying little manual tasks are sometimes what keep you competent. Once a thing is fully automated, it’s weird how fast the muscle memory disappears.

I’m not ضد automation at all — I just wonder which skills people are deliberately trying to keep alive, and which ones they’re happy to let fade. Has anyone found a good line there?

The skill I try to keep alive is “doing it manually when things are on fire” — like running a deploy or triaging a prod issue without leaning on the happy-path tooling.
