One of the things I was hoping to fix when I replaced my video card was an error that I get sometimes. I experience these crazy green lines throughout my entire screen. First I thought it was a problem with my monitor, but the lines are affixed to certain objects, not **locations **on the screen. For example, if an object (like a word, or a logo on the web) is freaking out with these crazy vertical green lines, and I scroll, the lines scroll with it.
Since the lines aren’t like in certain spots on the screen or anything, that made me think video card. But… I just replaced my video card, and it’s having the exact same issue. So it obviously isn’t that, since it’s a completely different brand and such.
Now my thought is that it’s having trouble getting information from the video card to the monitor - but it doesn’t happen in DOS mode, so maybe some sort of software problem? Maybe the cable is shot? Maybe my monitor is screwed up somehow? The weird thing is that sometimes it is perfect, and I can’t really reproduce what causes it.
The problems have persisted across a different Motherboard, different Video Card, different CPU … which is making me think monitor, does that seem reasonable? Maybe either the cord is screwed up or the intake ports are or something?
Ideas?
