Creating soft drop shadows?

This is surely something simple, but I can’t figure out how to make soft drop shadows in Flash MX. Not sure if the term ’ Soft Drop Shadow ’ is necessary a universal term so what I mean by that is how to you create a shadow ( or just say a rectangle ) were the outside fades out gradually instead of having a solid line?

Thanks for the help!

Hmm…creating a shadow in flash isn’t too hard, but requires a lil bit of work.

What you basically do is use the gradient fill in the color mixer palete. There is a drop down menu next to the fill color, select radial or linear depending on the shape you’re using. In your case it would be linear because you want it for a rectangle.

Once you have linear selected, you’ll notice a gradient bar will appear with lil square sliders. By default one side should be black and the other is white.

Click on the white lil square on your right to select it. Right above it is the alpha slider, use that slider to set the white side of the gradient to 0.

That’s basically how you’ll mimic the fade out look. Honestly, I would use a program like photoshop and create the drop shadows and just import the image into flash, but you decide which is easier, good luck. =)

Ya, I find photoshop much more usefull. Was trying to minimize the amount of graphics I import but more some things the flash drawing components are limited. In this case Photoshop and importing seems to be the best way. Thanks!

or, this might not be what you looking for but here goes…

copy the image then move it using the arrow keys, move it left and down 3 knocks then fill it like gray or something

the press paste in place and you original image with copy over the shadow.

This file has a great example of gradient drop shadows
