Drop Down Shadow

Em just wondring how make them drop down shadow effect in Flash like this one here http://www.kirkimages.com/Site/kirkimages.html

well, you have two choices:

1: Photoshop (recomended)

2: Flash Gradients

You do it with…I’m sorry, I do it with Photoshop, however, you can play around with the basics of it. For instance, make two static text boxes containing what you want to say. One of them will be the color you want, then the other one is black or dark grey - what have you. Then put the dark one just under the main text box to the right and down some. It’s cheezy, but it’s a start. If you want a blurry one/gradient you’ll either want a program to do it for you - or a hell of a lot of time…:stuck_out_tongue:

Good luck!!

Hmmm…beat me, huh? :stuck_out_tongue:

Haha! I win!

I was trying it in Photoshop but i can get exact thesame drop shadow, all i got was its either in the left or in the right??

Hey Freddy, I enjoyed hovering my mouse cursor over your footer heheheh! its fun!

I can solve this. Hold please

A mod will probably move this to the design forum where you may get more answers, however:

If you use drop shadow in PS, make a shape, right click on the layer and click blending options, click drop shadow:
opacity: 75
distance: 0
spread: 75
size: 6

That will cast a shadow around the shape. Play around with the settings - you can always change them back. I learn a lot by trail and error.

Well, you can either do an outer glow, like this:

hey freddy, I said I got it!

anyway, or you can do a shadow:

ok. thanks coppertop and freddy

(ha! he put my name first! I was more help! insert evil smilie here)

no problem!

The cookie goes to Coppertop!! :stuck_out_tongue:

hey freddy, dont get me wrong yah? when i say i like hovering my mouse cursor over your footer, it doesnt mean I am insulting your work. i like it man! besides you should be proud co’z some people like me can’t do that one.

Mmm. cookies.

Thats ok, you tried. (winking smilie)

Here’s what I would try and do in both Photoshop and Flash. I haven’t tested it out yet so it’s open to experimenting.

Photoshop:
[]Make two copies of the text you want to apply this effect to. One will be the original while the other will be the one with the effects applied to it
[
]for the layer where you are applying the effects to, turn on preserve transparency and use a gradient tool (linear) and just fill that layer with it.

Turn off preserve transparency and go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur. I suggest a small number, but it’s all relative to the size of the text itself.
Flash:
[]This step is the same as Photoshop, have two copies (layers is a much better idea), the original and the one that’s going to have the effect applied to it.
[
]for the effects layer, Go to modify and break the text down until it becomes a shape (you’ll know when they have white dots all over it)
[]Apply a linear gradient to the broken up text. You might want to reorient it so that it’s going from up to down.
[
]Go to Modify > Shape > Soften Fill Edge. Make sure it’s set to expand and play around with the numbers.
If you want to know how to do those stuff meant for Photoshop in Flash, check out the older tutorials that do not use layer styles. This is pretty much the reason why I have posted a different method of creating this effect in Photoshop because I wanted to demonstrate some of the similarities between the methods used in both programs.

Be aquainted with other methods of creating effects without resorting to the layer style because it’ll help trying to recreate similar effects in other programs as well.

Btw, the group that made that site did the drop shadow effect in a raster program [most likely Photoshop]. Just in case you’re wondering

I hope it helps :beam:
