Critique this please

hiya,

this is my latest project: a site for a church.
basically its a kind of christian church that seperated from the roman-catholics in 451, with a community in austria.

currently i’m trying to get a layout done for the main page.

anyways, what you’ll see after clicking the link below is all i could come up with so far and honestly, i’m not too confident with it… :-/

the customer asked me to add links to his old page, plz just ignore them, as well as the german text…

so, if you can drop a few lines about what you think of the layout/look of the first page, i’d appreciate it, and please… be honest
thanks in advance,

oh, and please mind that i’m no pro at all, just doing this to finance my studies…

c’mon guys, don’t let me die stupid…if it sucks, just tell me…

i think, its old and nice…very historic

ty, i just hope it fits the cause, sometimes i simply can’t get enough distance from my work…

keep the critiques coming please

I like the first page, it looks nice, there really isnt anything big wrong with it, so you probably wont get to many comments

thanks, harm

i guess i’ll just stick with it then
+/- some minor changes

i think its too busy, and you have too many different types of fonts. it need to be unified. bring it all together with a common theme.

yeah, you’re right, thank you

i’ll fix this asap!

Why are the linking pages different from the front page? I think the style on the front page -the parchment bg, litho/etching graphics and nice serif font-totally suit the topic at hand, it looks great. But I really think you should carry this style over to the other pages that make up the site to give it a unified aesthetic.

i will

the linking pages were made by some volunteer, who wanted to do the church a favor, i’ll replace them with a cms (mambo) as soon as i dare to call the main page “finished”

oh, and thanks for the compliment :flower:

i reckon its pretty good

I like the index but for example when I enter in “Geschichte” theres too much info and I have to scroll down too much, maybe u can make ur font smaller, its annoying to scroll that much

these are the pages that volunteer, i mentioned before, made, before they handed the site to me to fix it

i’ll remove these sub-pages soon, but the customer has urged me to link to them, and they’ll have to stay till the new ones are finished

oh sorry, my bad… :stuck_out_tongue:

np :stuck_out_tongue:

i made some changes now, including unifying the fonts, so heres the new version. to compare, above is a link to the old version:

old: http://www.suryoye.at/index2.php

new: http://www.suryoye.at

better? worse? :ear:

I prefered the old one. I’m all against the buttons that don’t have titles. It means I have to put even more of an effort into knowing what’s on the site. If you do that, you’ll atleast need a menu next to it showing all the pages that those buttons represent.

you’re right, i tend to forget about usability sometimes :trout:

hmm, the layout seems cleaner to me now tho…
…got to find a compromise without having to start anew… :puzzled:

more changes:

old: http://www.suryoye.at/index2.php

new: http://www.suryoye.at

There’s not that big of a difference, but I think the new one is a bit better.

thank you =)

does it still look too busy? :ear:
