DEBATE : Developers, Do you prefer to develop for IE or Firefox?

[FONT=Verdana]Hello all, I was wondering what the Web Designers around here thought about this topic.

To start off, I am an avid Firefox fan. I love everything about it, and it’s my standard browser. If something works in IE only, Then I just use IE Tab, an extension for firefox that allows you to switch to the IE rendering engine inside of firefox. As much as I love firefox, It’s a pain in the arse to develop for. A lot of CSS stubbornly won’t work, and god forbid a simple javascript code works! But in IE, everything runs smooth as velvet. So when I’m working on a little something for fun, I develop in IE. That’s probably the only time I use it. I’m pretty sure there was an online petition/following that is demanding that IE becomes compliant with Firefox’s standards. I think it should be the other way around.

Well, what’s your opinion?

Why the weird font and why would you ever want to develop specifically for a browser? I develop something that works and then I break it so it works in IE generally.

What kind of dumb question is that, and why is IE’s giant non-standards compliant manjunk so far down your throat? :stare:

I think it’s pretty much a general consensus among qualified web developers that Firefox works more or less how it should, and that IE (especially 6) is a pile of dung when it comes to xHTML strict development.

I’ve gotten to the point where I know it won’t work in firefox or it won’t work in another browser so I just do it the way I know it will work and reuse that a for consistency.

IE7 is decent and FF is not much better so its hit and miss give it a few more years when XHTML is standard and such and we all will be better off viewing wise.

//edit, I think we all have IE tab installed. Meh I use it less and less though.

All browsers aren’t compliant. IE is the worst of them; I don’t see why you would actually like developing in IE. And what’s with the weird font?
