hi all. Thanks for looking. The problem is I know a hell of a lot about using tools such as flash, photoshop and illustrator but the problem is I lack in any knowladge of design principles.Especially about layout ,choosing the correct mood(eg tech or organic), type and color theories.Any sites out there that can help me out???
:kommie:
same here! i really ned some help!
alright well for color theory, do a g00gle search and you’ll find PLENTY. I think its good to have a grasp on the concepts but you probably wont notice a huge change just by reading some theory, it partially just comes with time, you learn as you do things wrong!
for layout and type, there’s also some good resources. I recommend you look at your library for books, i found a huge one about typographical layouts that made me think about different things. Just reading books and looking at great type designers (i.e Paul Rand) will probably give you ideas of new things to try.
for a subject at uni, we had to take 3 elements - a big capital letter A, a basic shape (square or circle or whatever) and a series of thin lines (representing body text) and create a lot of different layouts focusing on Scale, Rhythm, Balance and Asymmetry (some for each). It really helped to just play around heaps with the basic elements in varying ways.
as for design styles, i personally don’t like them the way they’re often used. Sure your work can look ‘sweet’ pretty easily if you follow a certain trend, but its so derivative. in a broader sense you do need to work out the mood the client is looking for, but i think that’s usually clear - a computer company wants a techy look; that doesn’t just mean copying 2Advanced or whatever the big thing at the moment is.
seriously, i’m sure you’ve heard it before but experiment! make up a brief or exercise for yourself and just go wild with it.
You gotta put in the time first, practise practise practise
I guess ya’ll is right .Gonna try and put in a few more hours of practice
