Does it matter if you're Black or White?

Okay back to basics here, am going home and plotting tomorrow’s work - I’m planning to use a pile of black and white images in a corporate looking site, does that mean I will be able to cut down the .jpg file size?

If so - cool. How you all doing?

fine =)

no i dont think it will change much, although without colors less info is stored; the difference would be noticable with gifs i think. What really matter with JPGs is the compression level…

Depends if its bitmap (just black, and just white) or if its grayscale. Grayscale images will take up more memory…

Flash will save all images as jpeg in any case… it doesn’t matter if you use gif, jpeg, png, tiff, bmp, etc. You can change the jpeg compression in the publish settings dialog box, but just test before you decide to use a specific setting, because sometimes a lower compression will look awful.

i would definatly use GIF’s over JPEG’s if the image is only black and white. That way you will get much smaller file sizes. GIF size depends on the colours used, whereas JPEG’s rely on the compression level to cut files size down. You could use JPEG’s with plenty of compression if you want, but your image would most likely turn out look distorted.
