I want to get better at pencil sketches. Can you leet artists out there recommend me a few good books? All types are welcome. Anatomy, cartoon, landscape, etc.
Andrew Loomis is pretty awesome… his books were actually freely published on the internet for a little while, but now the copyright people have cracked down which is a shame, because they’re out of print so basically people won’t get these great resources anymore.
anyway, they’re still available for online view from this other site, not SURE if it’s legal but i think it is because its just as a reference.

WARNING: there are some random images that also load on these pages, and a few of them are nudes (tasteful, for anatomy purposes) but you migth want to be careful.
another book, Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain by Betty Edwards has a bit of a love/hate reaction… i personally didn’t find it that amazing, but a lot of the testimonials which i have no reason to distrust show people’s skills improving a lot quickly. There’s limited scope and it’s basically how to copy photos, but for that it seems to work well. If you look at reviews on Amazon you’ll get both sides of the story.
this book also has quite a bit of pseudo-psychology stuff in it which is bland and unnecessary to me, and apparently dubious science-wise…
anyway, make your own evaluation
cool, any more?
Hmm - I’ll have a hunt and get back to you - I always just liked books which show you how to break things down into basic shapes
Cool, let me know.
