DVD burning / ripping

hiya,
i am not sure if i am stepping on peoples toes when i ask this but, is it possible to “rip” DVDs on to your HDD ?? and if so is it possible to put them onto VCD ??

now serously why would you want to do that - i mean VCD quality is ****!!!

GET A DVD BURNER AND DOWNLOAD DVD-SHRINK!!!

I had to do that recently for my Hero VCD, except I had to put 2 VCD into one DVD adding on english subtitles with it.
