Dynamic Animation vs. Compiled Animation

Is there a significant speed gain when animating directly on the timeline and then compiling into an SWF versus real-time animation through actionscript (especially Tweener variations)?

On that same line of thought, if time-line animation is not any better speed wise then is there a way to compile animation so that is plays faster…a way to treat it like a video where its just a collection of frames (I assume this is faster than animating by object).
