Dynamically changing color based on external(?) info [renamed]

Hi all,

I read through the random colour tutorial with interest, and wondered to myself if an objects colour could be altered in other ways… such as by a weather feed or stocks feed.
I thought it would be interesting if the design of a site could be changed regularly by outside influences.
Is this possible?
Umm… do I need to get out more?

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Check out www.dunun.com. Then change your clock on your computer say to night time, or dawn, or sunset, then refresh your browser and enter the site again. Not only is what you are talking about possible, it can be done in a very beautiful and tasteful way.

Hey thanks
that’s cool… all the shades change… and as you said - it is very beautiful!
do you know of any starting points for me?
i’m really a beginner, but I’m guessing that one number or piece of data is being approximated as another value and then inserted into the script?

Thanks

Thanks

Honestly, I have no idea how that is done. If I could create sites like that I’d quit my job in half a second and go into business for myself!

That one is related to the clock so it must make use of some of the time functions (java? actionscript?) to capture the time of day and then use if/else or switch statements or some other grand function to adjust tint/alpha/whatever.

It’s beautiful though ain’t it?

:hr:

sure its possible. All you need to do is to be able to get that info into Flash, probably via a loadVars object, and interpret that in whatever way you see fit into information that can be used by the color object.

It basically all depends on what you’re using to change the color (feed) and how you want the color to react based on thatl.

see? of course it’s possible! just not easy unless you know geek speak
