Fast onboarding can hide the real skill curve

I keep seeing products treat onboarding like the finish line, when it’s really just the first five minutes. You can get someone to succeed once and still leave them totally unprepared for the thing they’ll need to do every week.

That feels especially bad in tools where the easy path is heavily guided and the real work is buried. Has anyone found a way to teach the deeper workflow without making the first-run experience feel like homework?
