First go at professional web design

Hello! So I have officially started my “career” in professional web design… Ive been asked to come up with some design ideas for a new website for car company Zahav.

Here is there current website: http://www.zahavauto.com/main.htm

Ive come up with a few initial ideas, and would really appriciate some feedback on them and a push in the right direction  As I said this is the first thing I have done professionaly, and want to get it right!

Please, be brutal! Dont be afraid to tell me theyre **** if they are.

Personally, I don’t think either of them are fit for a car company website. First off, the first one seems more like a corporate office job website, while the second one… I don’t have anything, the layout just doesn’t seem to fit a car website. You need to take into account a lot of different things for a car company, two major ones that come to mind are listings and promotions.

Promotions usually need to be BAM in your face on the front page. If you look around at a lot of the big name car companies’ websites, a lot of them have the same thing in common (which is a good idea), they all have a big space on the front page reserved for specifically a promotion/new car. Most people when they go to a car website, want to get straight to the cars themselves instead of reading about the actual company.

Also when I think of a car company website, I think simple, to the point, and bright. But again, that’s just my opinion and just a few things to take into consideration. You’re getting there though!

yeah I think we are going to have some flash video of all the cars they make accross the front page somehow.
What do you think of the colour schemes, do they fit? I agree I htink the 2nd one could use a lot more work, theres something really nbot right about it, especially the middle content box.

Any more crits?

I … sorta like the overall layout of both of them actually.

The colorschemes are incredibly bland and uninteresting though

get some ideas from cool car sites. here’s a good one: http://www.acura.com/. also, if you stray from black, which is the most commonly used color for a car site, try using more saturated colors.

These almost resemble wireframes and not finished comps. I would look into directing the user with hierarchy and color. And by all means grab some inspiration from a genuine source

does’nt look like a website for a vehical, know your product and do justice with it…its dull…
