Hey guys,
I am a student in software engineering and I have my break from school now.
I have a few people wanting me to build them websites but I only know javascript and html.
I have downloaded some of the template monster designs and they are in flash and the people really want a flash designed site.
My question is what do I need to make flash and is it hard? Because like I said, I have the ones from template monster and they are all set i just need to change the pictures and colors.
Thanks guys
Changing pictures and colors are very easy. Although I’ve fixed a few templates for people before and I can tell you they are usually a mess. Trying to find your way around could be difficult.
Hmmm okay, what do I need to edit flash? Cause dreamweaver as far as I know doesn’t do it.
Seriously?
You would need Flash to edit Flash.
LoL You Need Adobe Flash 8/CS 3
ok one correction you dont have to use cs3 you can always get say flash mx or mx 2004 which i find quite useful. and sorry to any cs3 lovers but it caused me nothing but roblems ruining every project i ran through it.
Okay, so i have been playing around with flash 9.0 all day and I cannot for the life of my figure out how it works. Where would I go to simply figure out how to replace images?
The template is http://www.templatemonster.com/flash-templates/15309.html this one.
I just want to replace all the images with my own and all the written text to my own.
I am so lost.
What program should I buy? I have been sightless since more than a year ago and now everything is OK,I see again. I lost all my computer hardware and software. My aim is to build web sites, eventually. Wanting to get going again I don’t know where to start. So tell me what software program should I buy to learn to do it ‘right.’ I might have used Flash professional before. I remember nearly everyone anticipating the excitement of Actionscript 3.0. And then Flex, whatever that is, got into the conversation. I was happy with Flash. Anyone out there who would share ideas and advice would find me to be a good listener. I have a Mac. What program should I buy? Is there a free one anywhere? Another way for me to ask my question is: how best can I, as a beginner, start to learn to be a developer of web sites that are on the leading edge.
You might want to start with http://www.adobe.com and go to their download page. To expose you to many of their softwares (including Flash CS3) they offer a free, 30-day trial period.
I would only do this when you know you might have a big chunk of 30 days relatively free to work with the program. Obviously you are not going to master it in 30 days, but it will give you some time to explore it a bit and work with it a bit. (But 30 days will go by very quickly.)
You might, during this 30 day period come back here to kirupa and see what tutorials are available for CS3. (This section is, in theory, for those of us still using Flash 8. But the Kirupa site has many different pages, including one for CS3.)
Then at least you will have a better idea if you want to proceed with making the financial investment into Flash. Flash is being used these days in a number of areas. From banner ads to games to full-fledged Flash websites. While there still seems to be some folks out there who do not want to touch Flash (because they do not “get it”), by and large I believe it is a mandatory software tool to know today.

gpacioli: Truthfully, if you want to be on the leading edge of web design, learn HTML, CSS and JavaScript/AJAX. Generally, Flash isn’t considered the best way to create full websites due to several reasons.
It generally causes accesability problems with screenreaders and such
It can break the back button
Not everyone has Flash, etc.
Besides, if you know what you’re doing, you can do almost everything just as well with AJAX/DHTML/CSS as with flas (web-site related atleast. Games, RIAs, etc will still require Flash/Java/etc)
Don’t avoid Flash, just stay well rounded and realize that Flash alone will not a website make you.

One of the answers I received suggted I might buy Swift or electric Rain or Poser or Toon Boom. Do you know anything about whether these programs might be of use in getting started easily?
Being well rounded (HTML, Java, CSS, etc.) is always a good idea. My post did not say it was not. Since this is a Flash related board, I largely was offering a suggestion on how to try Flash out for the 30 days that Adobe gives you.
However, I do not entirely agree that full websites cannot be created in Flash since I have done about a dozen of them without issues.
While it is true that everybody might not have Flash Player on their system, I am inclined (on this point) to believe Adobe (of course I am fully aware that they have their reasons for promoting this…they want people to buy and use Flash). Adobe’s claim is that - world wide - 97% of computer owners have some version of Flash Player on their system. (My own brother was in that 3% who did not for years.)
Again, the other poster is correct. There is a lot to know. Flash, in and of itself, is but one component. I just happen to believe it is an important component. Can you create websites without Flash? Of course. Are they as good? I don’t think so.

I understand he points being made — all part of the growth that will occur once I get ‘going’. Now I’m fussing, in my mind, about why Adobe is pushing Flex so hard.
Does anyone know the difference between FLASH AND FLEX ----- no joke ?
okay so thanks for taking over my thread…Does anyone have an answer on how I can simply change pictures and text of a template. Is there a site that shows how to do this?
I am most sorry. I did not intend to intrude on you in any way — I promise to help you, best I can.
no worries, I just know that theres a bunch of little things I need to do in order to fix my problem I just don’t know how to do them lol.
There is probably not a tutorial on how to work with templates that somebody else has created. (In the 6 years I have been working with Flash I have never heard of such a tutorial.) Personally (having been hired a few times to help people whom have bought these templates), I think that most of the companies creating this stuff should be run out of business. They make all these claims of how easy their templates are to use. Then an innocent consumer, such as yourself, gets the template and suddenly it is not so easy as the company makes it sound.
People who have not worked with Flash (but want Flash in their sites) should either (a) hire a Flash designer/developer from the get-go so that you are actually working with someone who knows what they are doing or (b) actually dig in and learn Flash yourself - via both the Help section of Flash and sites like Kirupa or LearnFlash.com (or the others that are out there).
Trying to unravel some of these templates can be taxing for designers who do know Flash. I can only imagine it to be a nightmare for people who do not know Flash.
Good luck.

hmmm thanks, I searched and I found this http://www.templatemonster.com/help/10/54
basically my set up is that I am using Flash 9 and when i go in and change the image then I open the index.html after saving my changed photo. The same photo comes up that was originally there even though I changed it.
So confusing
Good that you found some help for your issue.
