Flash External XML/Image Load Time

Hello,

I have created a site that loads external JPGs using an XML file and creates fade transitions between them. The site is located at:

http://www.hualalailuxuryvillarental.com

The site owner and apparently a couple of other people have indicated that there is a long delay from the time the site is accessed until the first image loads. This is something that I have not been able to recreate and debug using my cable connection. When I view the site, the load time for the first image is less than 2 seconds, even after clearing the browser cache to ensure the image is not being loaded from memory. I have a loading indicator that should display the load progress until the first image is loaded. Apparently some of these users did not see anything and eventually left the site. I could understand a long delay if using a dial-up connection but to my knowledge, the connection used were DSL or faster.

The size of the flash movie is 5k while each of the 12 images in the slideshow ranges from 25k to 50k with the 25k image being the first to load. An interval timer is used to control the load and display duration of the images. I have code to bypass the duration the first time through so that the first image begins to load immediately.

Does anyone have any idea or suggestions as to what might be going on? Does anyone else actually experience a problem with the loading to begin with? As for the people who stated that they didn’t see anything and eventually left the site, could it be because they either didn’t have Flash at all or maybe had the wrong version. The move was compiled to use Flash 6 player or higher.

Any help is much appreciated!!

Thank you
