I just got word from one of our ladies that works in our fleet management section(keeps track of the squad cars) that Governor Jeb Bush issued a statement saying that after 4:00pm Floridians needing gas are not allowed to exceed a 5 gallon limit at the pump.
That is after 4:00pm you are not allowed to buy more than 5 gallons of gas.
Also word from central florida ( my parents ) says that if you are in the market for a gas generator try contacting Alabama. There was no luck whatsoever in obtaining one in florida, they were selling them out of the back of semi’s at the Home Depot. Coleman, the company making them said that every one they make is going straight to Florida.
My father was finally able to get the “last” one from a store in Alabama and it is being UPS’d down to him.
So start preparing everyone. We are getting the “gear up to help florida” emails from our Colonel and directors.
I encourage all Floridians to visit http://www.floridadisaster.org for shelter, hotlines, status, storm tracking and etc.
It is the website for SERT (State Emergency Response Team) -
also apart of that effort is the EOC - you probably have heard of it on TV - it is the Emergency Operations Center and it’s website can be found at: http://www.floridadisaster.org/eoc/index.htm
I just thought of a cunning and devious way to get around the 5gal limit: buy 5 gal at one pump, go down the street, buy another 5 there, and so on. suprisingly simple really.
Tying in with the generator deal, most generators run off gas…so read about the shortage above, and imagine everyone running one…on top of using their cars to evacuate and etc. The last evacuation was the largest in our history.
Most of us in north florida are able to go to Georgia to get it; a lot are utilizing that option.
