If only people in RL spoke and conversed as much they do in forums , the world would be a nicer place.
Its weird people in normal everyday life ignore 95% of the people they say , without ever thinking to chat and pass the time with them.
But on forums people (myself included) will spend hours posting on some thread of no real importance to anyone.
so according to ppl over here have double personality online and different one offline? Good Ppl are good and bad are worst does’nt matter where they are, not saying i am good or watever, just that i m same, lets it be anyline(offline or online)
When you reply to this post its real life equivalent would be a total stranger wandering up and asking your opinion on something , now you wouldnt get into a conversation with him would you and this is even more true for the like 100+ posts threads it would be like ten total strangers all having a chinwag about politics or the like… would never happen in RL.
Also unless we communicate with others how do we know we dont like them.
Forum conversations are not true conversations as they are not instantanious and in real time. Also we can select the conversations we want to enter into.
As this is a Flash / Web Dev based forum we all know the general topic and the background of everyone here is web / flash and bettering them selves in said area and therefore converse on that level or there abouts.
There is less diversity of character here than IRL!
Jasninder: Yeah, i’m slightly different offline than online. Offline you are lucky to get a few words out of me, i’m very quiet. But since typing technically isn’t talking, I can be more chatty
The thing about forum conversations is that what you say gets saved for future viewing. It kind of makes what you want to say a little bit more relevant than talking to a casual stranger and forgetting what you both said a few hours later.
I wouldn’t say less diversity though laslett. If there is anything on your mind to talk about, there is a forum for it - it can be anything from creating Spam in Flash, using a preloader with spam, just spam, or the devious politics of spam. There is a forum for it so everyone is somewhat happy :fe:
And me the dumb jock who had a secret life as a computer nerd. The only person from my college basketball team to grauduate from college (so far)… I am pretty much the same on the board…funny at times (i think) but generally serious and helpful…

**For me, it is because of the people I live around. They are all the people I wish I could ban from life :trout:
Well not all of them, there are SOME nice people here, but it’s a rare occurance. **
lol so… you think people in philly are bad eh?
ok try living where i am. check this out…
the guys around here are all a bunch of guido’s, keep in mind i am also part italian.
i mean LIB these guys get their nails done, they wear tight little shirts to show off their puny muscles.
they even where sunglases at night!!!
not to mention if i lite a match near their hair they would explode
Digital: So it’s just the way people look that make where you are bad :h:
I wasn’t even going into looks, hehe… too diverse here. Just people around here are ignorant, and it is unsafe to walk ANYWHERE alone (both my mother and my brother were mugged about 3-5 blocks from my house, on 2 seperate occasions).
You look at someone for a second and they get all pissy.
It’s not fun when you have to keep your guard up all the time.
DDD: Hehe, nope, don’t live there, but I know Philly isn’t the only area like this, there is worse (I feel bad for those people)
APDesign: So true, so true. I almost got hit by a car today while waiting for my bus to work by some guy who wanted to get by a red light by making a last minute decision to cut through the gas station lot (and my bus stop area). Good stuff.
When you’re on the forums, or in a chat room, it’s not a REAL conversation.
You’re not talking to someone, you’re typing to someone. In some ways, it’s making people less responsive to inter-personal relationships, but it has, like you say, brought complete strangers together at the same time.
It’s a crazy thing, I try not to think about it much. But normally, I’ll talk to anyone who wants to listen.
I think people are a lot of more talkative in forums, coz the ppl here have ‘probalby’ interests in common and are kinda the same…
I personally enjoy chatting or being on a board, because I can easily say stuff I wouldn’t say in rl… “It’s not that I’m shy or something but… :)”
