GIF Grain

hey there. whenever i export a animated gif file, the picture quality sucks bad. look @ this.

its all grainy and bad.

It happens if i have a jpeg in any of my animated gif’s ; they come out terrible. is there anyway to fix this? Thanks,

Export from where?
You using Flash to make anim. gifs?
If not, this post has got nothing to do here and will be moved,
first post, ok, but you could still pay a little attention to what you do!

It looks like you have dither turned on, or you are using colors that don’t fit within GIF’s color range, and it has to sort of dither them up… try using different colors, and increase the quality level of the exported file… It makes a difference which program you are using as well… which one are you using?

Please don’t take this rudely, but why are you people so confused about what program I’m using. The name of the forum is Flash MX 2004, the only way I can get any more specific is Professional Version. Once again I don’t mean to seem rude.

bumpitty. by the way. I have dither turned off from what I can see, any other suggestions? :alien2:

Booooy this post is old but still a major problem for me: heres another attempt to visually show you.

IMAGES:

JPEG (original)

GIF (flash)

Notice the grain now?

why don’t you just try using a paint program like photoshop, or paintshop pro to convert it into gifs. flash is a vector program at first.

Ya, But I want it to be animated :frowning:

Could someone else export a .gif and post it so I can see how it looks?

Well, firstly GIFs are limited to 256 colors. Therefore, a dither or something of that nature is usually applied. So, if Flash asked you how many colors you’d like it to use for the GIF, I’d crank it up to 256 :stuck_out_tongue: Although, then the filesize will go up, unless it only uses like 230 I believe.

do you have the fla and gif .If you want me to look at it send it

Looks like you have some sort of noise dither on that second one. I’ve never exported as gif from flash but if there is a dither type option set it to diffusion and set the dither amount to zero.

GIF’s are not really as perfect as jpg’s…it’s easy when you make vector art for it to look good as a GIF, but a photo as a GIF will be grainy.

Sorry pal

I heard something about new animated PNG’s. Is this true?

That would be great if it was.

You can create animated GIFs from Photoshop and build frames using ImageReady. Basically just create your frames in layer sets or layers and you can build your GIF and export for web and get the best quality possible for your GIF. I really wouldnt recommmend using Flash…
