DDD,
I sent you a PM for my reply on the first page about letting me fill the last spot?
DDD,
I sent you a PM for my reply on the first page about letting me fill the last spot?
well, in that case, can you count me in, since we have one vacant spot now?
I’m just curious what the reasoning is for limiting the contest to 25 entries…the 25 first entries aren’t necessarily the best. I would have understood shortening the date (by Aug. 9 you would have had 400 entries), but 25 is so few when you think about how many designers would have liked to enter.
Just my two cents.
There needed to be a limit because it was getting out of control so DDD had to get everything in order. Dont get me wrong I think it is more than generous of gizmodo to offer a prize and post a link to these forums but if we had 400 entries as you said the would be no order to things and not to sound mean or anything so I dont mean to offend anyone if I do I am sorry but a majority of the people who did sign up for this are only here for this contest maybe it is just me but that seems kinda cheap but then again this is just my opinion.
Another reason that we can’t have too many entries is that there is a public vote at the end to determine the winner. If there were too many entries, it would take a ton of time for everyone to go through and look at hundreds of logos. Plus, most likely everyone would end up with just one or two votes at most.
list updated and rules update
Dj I will remove you.
We placed a cap on the entries for a couple of reasons.
This started of as a battle and not a open “contest”. This was and is just a friendly competition and in its origianl form was reserved for Kirupa members. As battles have always been. With the posting on gizmodo. We realized that most of the new traffic and entrants would come from folks not regular members of Kirupa and probably wont come back (but we hope you stay). How our battle forums usually work is one person challenges another or lately up to 4 - 5 entrants battle, rules are set and the number of rounds. Then an open poll is posted for all to vote on. But we believe that 25 entrants opens up enough room for our battle regulars and accomodates the gizmodo folks. Which it has by the diverse list of entrants.
It got out of hand real quick and needed organization. And first come first serve is usually the best way as to rule out any favoritism.
We appreciate gizmodo for the donation of the prize. And mutedLogic for the idea. Good luck to all entrants. If you have questions please let me know. If it is a personal matter please PM me. Please keep it friendly.
Am I in?
This isn’t about giving Gizmodo the best logo, it’s about who is the best out of the logos that are done.
@grinch - read the list of entrants :trout:
Good point simplistik. The winning logo will not be used or purchased by gizmodo according to my knowledge. So if you value your work copyright it. This is a friendly competition once again. And be sure to read their disclaimer located at the gizmodo site, about the logo and usage.
Yay!
Thanks DDD
I want to get something cleared up. You say 2 color treatments… in the design industry a black and white logo isn’t considered a color treatment. So, this could/should state that you can have a black and white + 2 color treatments.
yea I make too many assumptions sometimes about the knowledge of the designer. He is correct. Black and white plus 2 color variations or treatments. But the logos must be the exact same other than that. No adding drop shadows or effects on one.
All you have to do is make a logo?
Gah, shoulda been in this…
just a logo?
I could count a number of times where I worked 10 times longer on a logo as I have full spreads. It is that one single focal point, and often what the spread can build off, like the nucleus to the whole piece. I would be ****ed if I was not perfectly happy with that one single element…the rest usually just follows suit
wow did I just curse? haha
Lol I think so. I didn’t mean to say a logo is easy. I meant is this battle to build a logo and that’s it? No other things with it?
sorry i misread into it - my appologies!
:beam: No worries.
That is one nice shiny prize there =).
I was honestly speechless when it was offered…hats off to their editor!
lol. Muted I thought the same thing when I read that.
I’m working for company right now that has a brutual looking logo (which they think is awesome) that has every colour in the rainbow in it. It’s been really difficult coming up with nice layouts when they want their crappy logo to be a dominant element in the design. O well, I guess it will be that much more fulfilling once I do create a design that makes the ugly logo look good.
