looks good grim
what i am going to do is buy the UPDATE version not the FULL becuase having XP home i get it 1/3 off the full price.
then i am going to save EVERY thing on about 10 CD’s then get someone to wipe the system, install XP pro then copy all my files back.
that should cover it.
thanks for the help guys
dude its as simple as backing up all your data on cd and just restart your pc with the windows xp cd and follow the on screen instructions, windows xp will format your hd so save some money and do it yourself besides you will learn a little something, its not like in the old days of win95 or 98 where you had to use a boot disk and create the cdrom driver in dos, man windows has improved alot :beam:
Grim: The Windows 2003 looks amazing. Not much graphical difference between it and Windows 2000.
Chris: Good luck on the format, I’d suggest you do it yourself too. It’d teach you something good. Plus, once you know it, you’ll do it more often.
i’ve never learnt that side of computers as i have never needed to. my machine came with windows XP home but at the time i was ok with it, but then i bought Flash etc etc and learnt a bit of HTML, but now i am quite serious about doing it for a job so i thought i would learn PHP or ASP and i went with ASP or ASP.NET as it is now.
but now i have to buy Access 2002 and windows XP pro, but that is ok becuase it gives me a reason to get a job and stop sitting round the house test AS or HTMl to see what i can do.
thanks Grim you have really helped me with this and the ASP stuff:)
hey man thats what were all here for
Always fun to experiment though.
Good Luck.
O yea, don’t forget to have a second computer with internet just incase you screw up somewhere if you decide to do it yourself.
lol, ok then i will go buy one with fresh air… do they take that now a days:beam:
xp pro will completely rock your world.
it’s a great OS if you config it properly…
mucho grande uptime

I format my computer every few weeks because I like the rush one gets after booting a freshly-formatted computer for the first time :C:-) I save EVERYTHING of value in my My Documents folder, and before a format, I simply backup my entire My Documents folder so that after a format, everything is back.
Of course I do search for *.dbx Oulook Express e-mail files, bookmark from IE (bookmark.htm), .pst Outlook 2003 e-mail files, and any random files that I find in other folders such as Game Saves.
Format once, and you’ll instantly be hooked!
Cheers!

Same with me, I do enjoy the instant 10 second boot the first time, it’s a computer high. Watch out for those Outlook files, I keep on forgetting to back them up.
Thanks
I hate reformatting on xp home… every time i do it just takes 3 hours but nothing happens… it just hides everything… nothing is actually gone… i end up with like about half of my hard drive taken up every time i do it… and i know windows doesnt take up 15 gigs
I never reformatted XP before, but I’ve heard it’s hard. I guess it’s just another thing Microsoft puts in to prevent “hackers” or say not.
i want to so bad…i think we might install it on our machines at work eventually, have to wait for the fiscal year to start
ya another thing i hate is backing up my IE favorite websites iwas so p!st when i installed win2k3 last week and i was like NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO i fogot to backup my favorites

ok dude, this is worrisome. you like the RUSH of rebooting??? my god.
Who doesn’t?
i think it’s time we all went outside;)
hahah I thought I was the only one.
I love to format computers and re-install everything just to get it the exact way you want it. I mean you make so many different choices and mistakes and you learn from them. Then you format and you dont make the same mistakes again and things run better and better.
We really are computer geeks I guess
