This week I’ve been working hard on this idea that I came up with. I’m sure it’s been done before, especially by the pros, but i thought of it on my own really.
What I did is I went and bought a larger stencil notebook. Plain linen-colored sheets. Then, whenever I see something that inspires me for a particular design, I’ll print a copy off, cut it, and paste it in the book with a comment on what I liked about the piece.
For example, my college’s library gets the magazine Graphis. Its a very high end graphic magazine - almost a book every issue. I went through all of the last years worth of issues, and I scanned in any picture that had an element that I would want to use in Web / Poster design. For example, there was this picture with a certain way a font was projected using reversed shadows.
Right now I have about 15 images on 10 pages.
Anyways, it’s a good idea to keep my ideas documented so I can draw from them when it comes design time.
Anyone else do this before?
